I am a commissioned pet portrait artist. I begin with an underpainting of various colors, sprayed with water or alcohol, to set those colors so they can show through the animals fur. I then use soft pastels mostly, ending with NuPastel to add the details of the fur and eyes. This commission of Payton is one of my favorites.
