Black Ears – This lovely creature lives on the farm across the road from my daughter’s house. I love to visit there and walk along the road and beside the pasture and watch the animals. Black Ears caught my attention one afternoon and we enjoyed the beautiful day together while she moseyed around the pasture, and I ambled along taking photos. This piece is the result of that time spent communing with her. I was impressed by her stature, a rather large presence, yet I felt her gentle gaze and a sense of grace. I worked out a few sketches, and decided this one best shared the cow I spent time with that afternoon. The painting is done on pastelmat using soft pastels and pastel pencils. I wanted to convey a close up, yet mutually comfortable distance, out of respect for both of us and our day in the pasture. A portion of every animal painting sale is donated an animal cause.
