"I Was Here" was painted on Uart 400 pastel paper mounted on a board. My inspiration was a visit to the unfinished Singer Castle in the 1000 Islands. The room near the top of the castle with the sunlight streaming through the high roof opening caught my breath and the graffiti was haunting. I didn't make my mark on the walls, but made a painting instead. I first toned the paper with a gray violet pastel and then put an alcohol wash in it. I proceeded with my drawing and pastel painting from there.
