Maurice is a retired career Air Force veteran. His dreadlocks, dimples and sunglasses prompted me to ask if I could take his photo and draw him. I wanted most of all to capture his kindness and did a charcoal drawing first. The drawing captured that essence and I knew that I had to paint him right then! I used a sheet of Uart paper that I had actually brushed off a prior painting and wanted to see if that could serve as an interesting underpainting. And here is the result!
