My submission 'Earth and Sky' was created with a variety of soft pastels on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. It attempts to capture the roses that grow in my garden during the summer months. Many days have a cloudless, brilliant blue sky. The variations in the colors of the roses against this sky were what appealed to me most. This painting is a bit of a departure for me style-wise in that is a bit more impressionistic in nature. Not as tightly rendered as earlier work and more interested in the shapes that create the flowers and their surroundings.
